Valentine’s Day Lego Box | Oriental Trading

February 8, 2017 By meredith Leave a Comment

I was provided some materials for the purposes of this post from my friends at Oriental Trading.  As always, all opinions are 100% my own.  Some affiliate links included for convenience.

I have always been a fan of Valentine’s Day.  It’s honestly one of the few things I miss about being a classroom teacher.  It was always such a fun day with my students watching them share cute little cards and decorating Valentine’s Day boxes.  My kids and I didn’t skip out on the fun this year.  After all, homeschoolers can celebrate too!

Since my boys are HUGE Lego fanatics, we used some simple materials from our friends at Oriental Trading to make these Valentine’s Day Lego Boxes together!

To make your own, you’ll need:

DIY white Valentine Card Box | acrylic paint | plastic cups | scissors | hot glue gun | foam hearts | Cricut Explore Air™ 2 machine

The first step is to choose the color Lego brick you’d like to make.  My oldest chose red and blue for our bricks.  So we got busy painting one box and lid red and the other box and lid blue.  Each box required two coats of paint for full coverage.  They dried super fast, which is nice with little impatient hands!  You could also find solid wrapping paper and just as easily wrap each box and lid (separately so you can remove the lid of course).  I imagine wrapping would require a lot of parental assistance.

Once our boxes were painted, I got busy cutting the very bottoms off of 8 plastic cups {8 needed per brick}.  These will serve as the top part of the brick and can be secured using hot glue.  So pretty much, this entire step from the cutting to the hot gluing needs to be done by an adult.  This was the perfect time for my son to start working on his Valentine cards.

Just look at all these cute, ready to go cards that we found through Oriental Trading.  My favorite set are the little Tic-Tac-Toe cards!

Using my Cricut, I chose a cute font and cut out my kid’s names to stick onto the front of their Lego boxes.  The boys were able to do this part as we just peeled and stuck them on like you would a sticker.  We finally added a few white foam hearts to give them that Valentine’s Day touch, and voila! Super cute, Lego brick Valentine boxes to collect all of their Valentine goodies from friends and grandparents and mommy & daddy.

I can’t wait for Valentine’s Day morning to fill their little boxes with a few fun treats and surprises!

Stay tuned later this week to see what we created for little sister!  While she loves Legos with her brothers, there is something she loves even more!
