Easy Yarn Pom Pom Bouquet

May 14, 2014 By meredith 6 Comments

I’ve been working on trying to make my craft room feel more like “mine”.  Currently it’s a multi-purpose room serving as my craft room/office and our guest bedroom.  I think by adding small personal touches to it, it will feel more and more like my personal space and less like the catch all room that it’s been since we’ve lived here!  I love this little project because it’s the perfect, small way to start adding some fun color to my desk area.

To make your own, you’ll need a few things…

a couple skeins of yarn {choose some fun Spring colors}

wooden skewers

jute twine

glass jar

scissors

hot glue gun/glue sticks

Now, before we get ahead of ourselves, you’ve got a lot of pom poms to make!  There are some cool pom makers out there, that I’m pretty sure you can find for about $10 or less at a craft store.  I make my poms the old fashioned way, by wrapping them around my hand.

1-choose a couple of colors you’ll be using

2-wrap around your palm about 75 times, not too loose, not too tight

3-leave a longer piece to wrap around the entire chunk once you remove it from your hand

4- tie the long piece around the middle of the entire pom

5- cut the loops from both ends of the pom

6- now you’ve got your “pom” but it needs a hair cut

7- trim the yarn pom so that it’s not as shaggy

8- admire your handiwork and keep making poms til you’ve got enough for a bouquet

Once I had a bunch of poms made, I attached the wooden skewers to each pom with a dab of hot glue.  I then arranged them in a repurposed glass jar that I wrapped in jute twine and a bit of yellow yarn at the rim.

I love having this arrangement on my desk.  It’s perfect for Spring and brings in some more color to my craft room.

I love these! They are so cute. I made pom poms for package decorations at Christmas, but I never thought of doing this. They look really nice!

I love how cute this is! And your clothespins are adorable too. Is that washi tape on them? I’m pinning this. I need to personalize a few spaces myself!
