DIY Wooden Teething Ring

April 29, 2014 By meredith 17 Comments

In my littlest’s Easter basket this year, I kept it really simple and only included things that I knew he’d love.  So I added some cereal puffs, a few board books, a sippy cup, and a sweet DIY Wooden Teething Ring that I made myself!  It was so simple and took just a few minutes to put together!

You’ll need just a few things to make one {or two} for your little guy or gal…

cute fabric

I didn’t use a pattern, to make the fabric part of the teething ring.  In all honesty I just kinda eyeballed it, cut and sewed.  Easy as 1-2-3!

I cut a 2.5 inch wide piece of the fabric and it ended up being approximately 10 inches long.  On either end, I cut a sort of rounded point though, that looked something like this…

For each teething ring, I cut two pieces of the same fabric and then sewed them together, right sides facing each other.  I left a 2 inch gap to turn the fabric and then closed it with a top stitch around the entire piece.

Once it was finished, I ironed the fabric so I had nice, crisp lines and tied it onto the teething ring like so…

They have been a HUGE hit with my little guy so far since he’s smack in the middle of growing all his little baby teeth.

And I love that I can just toss the fabric portion into the washer and give the wooden part a good scrub with warm soapy water to get it clean.

Have you made any other kinds of toys or teething rings for your little ones?  I’d love to hear your ideas!!

    These look lovely!

I do something similar, but machine washable rather than wooden. I make a cotton ring and stuff tightly with cotton stuffing, then make grabby ears much as you have here, for new baby gifting. I also made a few chains of cotton rings this way, which my 15 month old twins have really loved playing with and chewing on.

I have done wooden teether ring versions too, for which I treat the wood with lanolin first.

So cute! I make something similar called teething necklaces! They’re wooden balls, sewn and knotted inside cute cotton fabrics. A necklace mommy can wear and baby can chomp on!

It was probably about 3.5 inches in diameter if I had to guess.

Great post! Making a few of these for some new babies in the coming months. Thinking of making a couple with squared ends too.
