DIY Headband Holders

February 25, 2015 By meredith 8 Comments

Since venturing into the world of having a daughter, I’ve realized that having a girl comes with some new territory.  She’s pretty much the same as the boys.  Kind of.  I mean, she requires diapers and bottles and baths.  Who am I kidding…having a girl is quite a bit different than a boy.  One huge difference is that she has already acquired quiet an impressive headband collection in her short 6 months of life on Earth.  I’m sure eventually it’ll turn into bows and clips, but for now {seeing as that the hair growth is pretty slow}, we’re wearing headbands.  And, because they’re just way too cute to stick in a drawer, I wanted to make some fun and easy DIY Headband Holders for her room.

To make each one, I used the following…

large containers {think formula or oatmeal}
jute twine
glue gun/glue sticks {lots of glue sticks}
E6000 Glue
clear candle sticks
drawer pulls

Making them is so easy, it just takes some time since you have to wrap the twine tightly and evenly around the entire container.  I used a dab of hot glue every so often to secure the jute in place.

I also wrapped the lids separately, so that I could actually still remove them for storage inside the headband holders as well.  Once both the containers and lids were wrapped, I poked my drawer pulls through the top.  This was easy and didn’t require any tools since the tops were made of thin plastic.

The final step in making them was to attach the candle stick to the bottom of the container.  I used E6000 glue to ensure a tight hold and let it set over night before turning them over.  I just love how they turned out, and to be honest, I plan to make just one more that is slightly taller than the two pictured for a complete set of three for her room.

Moms of girls, how do you store all the accessories?  I’d love some ideas!!

    Meredith, I am there too! Love this solution to the see of hair bands. I came up with an option for hair clips too – personalized doll clip holder that hangs on the bathroom mirror. 🙂 http://satsumadesigns.com/diy-hair-bow-storage-doll/ Thanks! jen

    Meredith – those are so cute! I may have to make some for Katie! Right now, hers are laying on a two-tiered dessert platter I found on clearance at Target. I actually don’t use too many hair bands on her but she has a few of them, and those holders you made are so pretty! They make a pretty display. Plus, I like the interior storage too, with the lid. I’ll let you know if I get crazy and make any!

    I have made a headband holder following tour tips. Really it’s looking great. The DIY job was very easy as you have written the article in a detailed way. Thanks Meredith for your great idea. 🙂
