{back to school ruler wreath by create.craft.love}

Hi Wait ‘Til Your Father Gets Home readers!

I’m Jill and I’m the creative mind behind Create.Craft.Love!
I am THRILLED that Meredith asked me to guest post today!  She is one of
my newest bloggy friends!  I have had such a great time getting to know her and continue to be inspired by her creativity.
A little about me…
I grew up in Central Illinois and then moved to Missouri after I
graduated from college.  I have my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nursing.
My husband and I met at the hospital (as co-workers, not patients).  We
have been together for the better part of a decade now and have a
beautiful little boy who is my reason for existing.

Crafting has been a hobby of mine since I can remember.  My mom taught
me how to cross stitch when I was little and my grandma taught me to use
a sewing machine.  My creativity continued to blossom in college when I
joined my sorority (any other sorority girls will confirm this as
fact).  I love making stuff for people and seeing the excitement in
their eyes when they receive a handmade gift.
……………………………………
Today I am going to share a tutorial on creating your very own Back to School Ruler Wreath!

Let me start by saying I WAY overestimated how many rulers I needed.  So if anyone is looking for wooden rulers, I have about two dozen…LOL

Here’s what you need:
10 six inch pieces of ruler
10 four inch pieces of ruler
4 1/2 inch inner ring of wooden embroidery hoop
Wood glue
4 1/2 inch wooden circle
Chalkboard paint
Wooden apple (pre-painted from Michael’s)
Ribbon

Begin by placing your rulers face down on a hard surface in a starburst pattern.  Place wooden embroidery ring in the center so there is some overlap.

Apply wood glue to the inner edges of the rulers.  Place embroidery ring on glue.  I secured it by placing a ridiculously heavy medical textbook on top in order for the wood glue to cure.

My dad cut this circle with a hole cutter (hence the hole in the center).  You can buy these at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby but they were thicker and I was afraid it would be too heavy.
Paint your wooden ring with the chalkboard paint.  It took about four coats to cover.

Once the glue has cured, turn the ruler starburst over.  Begin placing the four inch ruler pieces between each long piece.  Apply small amount of wood glue to adhere.  (I used the same technique to secure the pieces while the glue cured.)

After that has dried, apply wood glue to the back (around the edges) of the black wooden circle and place over the hole in the center.

More glue drying…{boring}
Then apply glue to back of the wooden apple and place in the center of the black circle.
To cutesy it up, I hot glued some red and white polkadot ribbon for a hanger.
I adore this wreath!  It turned out way cuter than I imagined!

Again, a big thanks to Meredith and all of YOU for letting me share this project!  I hope you stop by Create.Craft.Love. and follow along!  I have some exciting things coming this fall so stay tuned!

Jill

I’m also  sharing a super simple craft that is perfect for this time of year (back to school time, of course)!  Head over to my friend Sarah’s blog, Becoming Martha, where I’ll be showing you how to make a simple paper clip book mark!  I bet you have all of these things somewhere around your home already!
