I know it’s weird to consider someone a friend if you’ve never met them, but that’s how I feel about Barbara.  She’s got such a cute DIY decor tutorial for you today; I know you’ll love it!  Thanks for sharing with us girl 🙂

Hi there!  I’m Barbara and I blog over at Chase the Star, a little blog about crafting, DIY makeovers, and more!  I focus on quick, simple and budget friendly projects, anyone can tackle!

I’m really excited to join you here at Wait Til Your Father Gets Home, I love Meredith’s projects and overall style, she’s so talented!

Today I wanted to share an easy tutorial for a project I made for my boy’s room.  Our boys are 10 and 4, they share a room for now and I’ve been trying to decorate it little by little over the last year since we moved in to our house.

I thought it would be cool to spell out the word “Brothers” in wood letters and put it over their bunk beds.  Well after months of looking for all 8 letters at every store imaginable I had just about given up.  I decided I’d settle for “Bros” instead.  That reflects more of our family’s casual and laid back style anyway!  I found the letters at Walmart and got some wood plaques to put behind each letter to give it more substance.

This project couldn’t have been easier!  I simply painted each plaque white and then taped stripes on it and went over the white with navy blue paint (latex paint I already had).
In the meantime, I painted each letter red (again–already had the paint!), and distressed the edges a bit with a fine grit sandpaper.
The plaques did not have hangers on the back, so using the insanely simple method I used here I made my own!
Once everything was completely dry I simply glued each letter to a plaque (using E6000 glue, but hot glue would’ve probably worked just fine).  Then hung them up and done!
An easy piece of art for any room in the house!  Think of using other wood pieces to glue to the plaques and different color combinations, and you can get really creative with this project!

My boy’s room is navy, red, and white for their favorite baseball team (Red Sox!) so this
project was perfect for them!
If you DIY, you can save so much money, and get really creative while you make exactly what you want!  I hope you were inspired!
Thanks so much for letting me crash your blog today Meredith!
If you’d like to check out more of my projects, please stop by Chase the Star!  You can also reach me at my Facebook page, Twitter, and Pinterest!
