Monster Eye Mobile

June 23, 2014 By meredith 5 Comments

Let the birthday decor sharing continue.  Last week I shared one of my favorite projects from the Monster Themed 1st Birthday Party, this Torn Fabric Birthday Banner.  Today, I’ve got another fun and inexpensive idea, a Monster Eye Mobile!

To make your own, you’ll need:

8-10 inch embroidery hoop

ribbon

white card stock

black card stock

glue stick

sewing machine

fishing line

 Cricut Explore™

To get started, I found a simple circle in Cricut Design Space™.  I cut out about 100 2 inch circles in the white card stock and another 100 1 inch circles in the black card stock.  With the Cricut Explore, this took no time at all!  I then used a regular old glue stick and started to glue the black circles to the white ones…instant monster eyes!

After they were all glued, I used my sewing machine to create lines of 10-12 eye balls.

This is another step that seriously took no time at all…super fast to sew paper eye balls people, try it!  Once they were all sewn, I attached each row of eyes to the embroidery hoop.  To do this, I removed the inner hoop, tied the thread to the outer loop, then once all rows were attached, I inserted the inner hoop back inside the outer hoop.

It’s okay to have excess thread showing around the hoop because the next step covers all that up.  Take a roll of ribbon {what ever color will go best with the rest of your party decor} and wrap it around the entire embroidery hoop.

Once it’s all wrapped, your mobile is finished and ready to hang!  I used three pieces of fishing line and tied it to a light we have in our kitchen.

It was so fun, and all the kids loved seeing it when they walked in, ready to celebrate my littlest guy!
