{birthday desserts}

July 27, 2012 By meredith 4 Comments

Since we had most of the food and drinks down at our neighborhood pool for the beginning of the party, I decided to keep the desserts at our house (and more importantly in the a/c).  I served homemade cupcakes and homemade firecracker cookies (see links for both recipes below).  We also had fresh red, white, and blue fruit (that went really fast), red, white, and blue taffy, and bubblegum!

Originally I was only going to have cupcakes, but I changed my mind after seeing my new bloggy bff’s firecracker cookies last month (Hi Jill!)

At the last minute I decided to make them as part of the dessert table at Jackson’s party.

She actually got the recipe from Six Sisters’ Stuff here.

Here’s my version…

These cookies were so good.  Because you make them with cake batter mix, they come out super soft and chewy!  I love the pop of color that the sprinkles add to them as well.  You could totally make these for any holiday or party, just change your sprinkle color to fit your theme.  Oh, and the recipe recommends white chocolate chips…definitely use them!

You may remember that I shared the recipe a couple of months ago, but in case you’d like it again, here’s the cupcake recipe I used for {Homemade Cake Mix Cupcakes}:

1 box of Pillsbury Moist Supreme Classic Yellow Cake or Chocolate Cake Mix

Substitute 1 cup of buttermilk in place of the water

1/3 cup of vegetable oil

4 eggs (instead of 3)

cute cupcake liners

Click here for the complete recipe!

I hope you’ve enjoyed all the tutorials from the party this week!

I had so much fun creating all of it for my little guy’s birthday 🙂
