DIY Light Saber Glow Sticks | Treat Boxes

July 12, 2017 By meredith Leave a Comment

I was provided with products from Oriental Trading for the purposes of this post.  As always, all opinions are 100% my own.

My boys are seriously growing before my eyes.  This summer marked years 4 and 6 for them, and we celebrated them together with family at our pool.  Summer birthdays=pool parties for life.  Since we are Star Wars obsessed lately, we went with some awesome Star Wars decor from Oriental Trading, and I was able to include a treat box for the kids at the party, complete with a DIY’ed Light Saber Glow Stick!

To make your own DIY Light Saber Glow Sticks, you’ll need the following items {links included are from Oriental Trading}.

Premium Glow Sticks | Silver Washi Tape | black Sharpie Marker

All you have to do is pop off the cap at the top of each glow stick {they’re meant for a string or lanyard to make a necklace}.  Since we’re making light sabers, not necklaces, that piece is not needed.  I wrapped the bottom of each glow stick in silver washi tape, then drew on the tape with black Sharpie to make it look like the buttons of a handle.  Is it perfect? NO! But the kids got a kick out of it, and all the other goodies in their treat boxes, so it was totally worth the effort {in my opinion}.

To personalize each treat box, I used some yellow vinyl, my Cricut Explore Air 2, and a Star Wars inspired font I found online and downloaded.  I added each child’s name or just “Thanks!” to the boxes.  That way everyone knew which box belonged to each kid at the party, and we didn’t have arguments about colors and things!

For the treat boxes and goodies, I used the following items:

Star Wars Jelly Belly Candy Packs | Mini Black Popcorn Boxes | Rubber Bracelets
BB-8 Jumbo Erasers | Star Wars Bouncy Balls | Star Wars Shaped Stickers

The kids {and if I’m being honest, the adults} thought they were awesome! Those Jelly Belly’s were delicious and SUPER fresh.  I tend to get a tad nervous when I order candy from any online resource, and Oriental Trading has honestly NEVER disappointed me in the candy department.  Everything is always packaged correctly and tastes great.  That’s important to me!
The rest of the goodies were super fun too!  Between the treat boxes & goodies, the DIY Light Sabers, and all of the great Star Wars themed party decor available, Oriental Trading helped me have the party covered. We all had a blast!

Now if I could only keep these two little forever!
