Pattern Block Learning & List of FREE Printables

August 21, 2014 By meredith 1 Comment

My biggest little guy turned three this past July, and he’s getting the itch to start school.  He talks about having a teacher and playing with his friends and learning to read and write all the time.  We intend to homeschool our kiddos, and I’m thinking this is the perfect year to start introducing him to all things learning.  Like I mentioned, he’s three, so we are taking things slow and definitely not in any huge rush.  I like to have lots of hands on activities that we can easily pull out when my other two littles are either napping or playing on their own for more than five minutes.  One of our favorite things to do together is to play and learn from pattern blocks.

Use pattern blocks to help preschoolers learn spatial awareness via Wait 'til Your Father Gets Home #patternblocks #patternblocktemplates #patternblockprintables

WHY Pattern Blocks?

They allow children to see how large shapes can be decomposed into smaller shapes.

They help with spatial awareness.

They help to build and learn the concept of patterns.

Use and manipulation of pattern blocks help children develop critical problem solving skills.

My three year old is a HUGE fan of pattern blocks and luckily there are tons of free printable cards and mats available.  Here is a small list of just a few of our favorites that we’ve used!

I recommend printing the ones that interest you on cardstock and laminating them for durability.  You can easily store them in a magazine file or a binder for future use.
