{Father’s Day Mustache Ice Cream Cake}

June 12, 2013 By meredith Leave a Comment

Hello WTYFGH readers! My name is Julia and I blog over at It’s Always Ruetten! If you’re looking for some easy (but impressive) craft projects, ideas for renters, and a few references to my furry loves Ricky Ricardo and Odo, be sure to swing by and check out my blog! I’d love for you to join me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Bloglovin!

I am so excited to share with you today a very cool twist on a traditional Father’s Day cake… a Mustache Ice Cream Cake!

I have an amazing dad. He is always so supportive, yet realistic and level-headed, about my goals and ideas. I truly couldn’t ask for a better dad. Unfortunately, we live many states apart, so I am making this cake for him!

What You Need:

1. Cake mix (and any ingredients needed to make the cake)

2. Ice Cream of your choice

3. Two tubs of whipped cream

4. Two matching round cake pans

5. Cooking spray and flour

What to Do:

1. Begin by gathering all of your ingredients
2. Heat oven to the temperature needed for your cake
3. Mix up the cake batter4. Prepare your pans by spraying them cooking spray and dusting liberally with flour
5. Pour evenly into two round cake pans
6. Bake until cooked through
7. Allow the two pans to cool; once cooled down, place in the freezer to solidify them
8. While the cakes are in the freezer, take our the ice cream to let it soften

9. Once the cakes are cooled (and almost chilled) take them out of the freezer and take them out of the pans
10. Using a sharp knife, cut a ying-yang shape into one of the cakes (aim to make the two halves even and trim if you need too)
11. Lay the cut cake on top of the second cake and use it as a template to cut the same shape into the second cake (pictures 6)
12. Place one of the halves back into the cake pan
13. Using a spatula, spread the softened ice cream on top of the cake (aim to use about half of the ice cream) (picture 7)
14. Put one of the other halves on top of the cake (picture 8) to top off the layers
15. Repeat steps 12-14 with the remaining cakes
16. Once both layered cakes are completed, place them back into the freezer and let freeze through (I let mine freeze overnight) (picture 9)
17. Once frozen, take out of the freezer and take out of the cake pan
18. Flip one of the cakes over so the bottom is facing up and align the “fat” parts of the shape together with the tips facing upward
19. Microwave the frozen whipped cream for 15 seconds, then using a knife begin icing the cake
20. Once the cake is iced, place back into the freezer to harden
21. Once frozen and when ready, take the cake out of the freezer and carefully transfer to your serving dish
22. Enjoy!
