{all-american first birthday party}

July 23, 2012 By meredith 9 Comments

We had a great time celebrating our little man’s first birthday this year.  Since he was born July 3rd, we decided to go with an All-American theme!

Just a few short weeks ago this little guy…

became this one year old big boy!

I still can’t believe it’s been a year!

To celebrate the occasion, we decided to have a big All-American Birthday Bash (being that his July 3rd birthday falls just shy of our nation’s Independence Day).  So I began searching on Pinterest for ideas and pretty much buying anything that was red, white, and blue from Hobby Lobby, Target Dollar Spot, the Dollar Store, Michael’s, and Jo Ann’s!

I had so much fun preparing for the big day and even more fun the day of the party.  Here’s a little tour in pictures of some of my favorite parts.  All this week I’ll be sharing tutorials for most of the projects I created for the party as well.

{party decor over the dessert table}

Have you ever made tissue paper pom pom’s?  They’re super easy to make!  Here’s a fantastic tutorial from Mrs. Martha Stewart herself 🙂

{homemade cake mix cupcakes and patriotic cupcake toppers}

{red, white, and blue candy and patriotic food tents}

{highchair fabric banner (ready for smash cake eating) and tissue paper pom pom’s}

These red, white, and blue bowls were found at the Target Dollar Spot…cute huh?!

{sparkler party favors and handmade star topiary}

All patriotic tins were found at the Target Dollar Spot, and I used a star punch and construction paper to create the table confetti!

We began our party at our neighborhood pool for about two hours.  It was 104 that day, and the pool definitely felt like bathwater helped keep everyone cool!  While at the pool we enjoyed cold drinks, hot dogs, pasta salad, chips, and black bean and corn salsa!

Jackson loved playing in the water with friends and family and rolled this cute patriotic beach ball around for a while too.

How cute is his little bathing suit?!  Walmart…$5!

After a while, we decided to head back to the house for some air conditioning, cake, and ice cream.  Singing happy birthday to Jackson was one of the sweetest moments of the whole party.  He loved the attention and the cake that his daddy was holding in front of him with a little candle on top.  After helping him make a wish and blow out his candle, we let him dig in!

He LOVED his cake!  I LOVED that he turned into a little smurf 🙂

After about 10 minutes of toddler cake smashing, we decided it was time to hose him off give him a bath.  Let me tell you…blue frosting is not easy to get off!

Shortly after cake Jackson was party pooped and took a nice, long nap!

Happy First Birthday Jackson!  We love you very much!!

Check back each day this week for tutorials/recipes on:
