{birthday memory book}

March 16, 2012 By meredith 5 Comments

My sweet niece just had her first birthday this past weekend.  I cannot believe she is already one year old!  Pretty soon it will be Jackson’s turn!  I got her the cutest little green and white polka dot bathing suit, but also wanted to give her something with some meaning behind it.  I spent a few days searching Pinterest for a great idea when I came across this from Nicole at Reaves, Party of Four.

To make my own 20 Questions Birthday Book I headed out to Michael’s, 40% coupon in hand and purchased:

  • Clearance 8×8 Scrapbook $6.99
  • 10 pack of 8×8 refill pages $3.99
  • Birthday Stickers $4.99 ($2.99 with coupon)
  • Total Cost: $13.97 (all other materials were already on hand)

Additional Items Used (but already owned)

  • small mat stack
  • star punch
  • zots adhesive dots
  • number stickers
  • print out of 20 questions

While I was waiting for the 20 Questions to print, I wrote up this little explanation note to put at the front of the book…

For the inside front cover, I purchased some super cute Happy Birthday stickers and made a design with some leftover star cutouts that I used throughout the book as well.

The book is set up for ages 1-18.  Basically each year mom and dad are supposed to ask the birthday girl the same questions to see how her answers change over the years.  Nicole at Reaves, Party of Four started her books at age 3, I liked the idea of starting with age 1.  I realize that a 1 year old and most likely a 2 year old won’t give you the answers directly from their mouths, but I figured that mom and dad could fill it in for them based on their year and likes and dislikes.  So each layout has a blank page with a number on it for the birthday year and another page with the same 20 questions.  Everything is all set up, all you have to do each year is insert your favorite picture and fill in the answers to the questions.

Cute?  YES!  Easy?  YES!  Something that both moms and dads and the birthday girl (or boy) will cherish for many years?  I hope so!  I plan to make a boy version for Jackson to start on his 1st birthday as well.

Here are the 20 Questions that I included in my version, feel free to use these or create your own.  I simply typed them in Word and printed 18 copies for the book!  You could also go to Nicole’s Etsy shop to purchase her Printable PDF of the 20 Questions she uses.

LOVE this! I just found your blog and this is absolutely perfect for my 3 year old daughter! We’re having her party this weekend and this would be great. I used to make scrapbooks and then switched over to making photo books. I am severly behind in making them though but will hopefully be caught up next year! But this would be an extra fun thing to build on for each birthday. Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks so much for this, I have been looking for an original gift from my neighbour’s daughter who has everything and I am translating in German (I live in Germany). Would you like to have a German and French version of the questions for your site? 🙂
